Some folks have reported problems with positioning the nut traps in the base frame struts. The Build Manual recommends taping the nuts in place. I decided to try a slightly more tidy solution. I've uploaded an STL file for a simple clip you insert into the open space next to the nut trap once the nut trap is in place. The clip is easily removed or can be left permanently. I think its handy for those few nut traps that are positioned where its awkward to hold the nut trap in place, hold one or two wobbling perspex pieces in position, and drive the screw at the same time. Maybe it's just me but I run out of hands... A LATE UPDATE: Soon after I started this thread, Stian Indal Haugseth posted his improved version. I was redoing some parts on my BigBox so I finally replaced some of my retainers with Stian's. Very nice! Super clean looking. Recommended! You can download Stian's retainers here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1515409
As my printer is working (I always wanted a toy boat in orange) and as I have not installed all the nut traps then my next print will be some clips.
Thanks a lot for these! Printed them up on my delta while building the BB, made it super easy to get the struts tightened up and no worries about the tape falling off.
It might block the nut from falling out but not by design. I glued the square nuts into the nut-traps
I haven't started on the nut traps yet and gluing them sound tedious. I don't know if this will bite me in the end, but I wanted a clip that also retains the nut. So I used your design and added a small lip inside the horseshoe. I hope you don't mind me using your design. I'm attaching it here as well but I can remove it if you want.
Had some time and did some more changes. Can upload STL tomorrow. I made it flush with the nut trap. This will be the outside. The screw locks it in place.
A plus of this design is if used for the "lower support" it will stop debris from dropping through the small gaps into the base. A filter on the fan would help stop dust getting in.
Thanks for developing! How many of those little bastards should I print? I finally got my BigBox this week
@Stian Indal Haugseth just a suggestion, would be nice if you put the new version also in the first post, someone reading this in a year or something does not have to read the whole thread...
Agree, but it is not my thread. I just continued to tweak @Ephemeris work. @Ephemeris feel free to add it to first post if you want.
Ask the administrator Josh, if this or a new thread can be sticky in the Build Help section with a copy of the stl file.
I vote for publishing on Thingiverse or Youmagine and linking only in the threads... Yeah I did it myself but for the modified parts of the BB I have the problem that they are not released yet and I don't know what license I should choose...
If y I'll post the STLs on Thingverse tomorrow. My fingers are sore after pushing in a few of them And having to take them all out of the back plate as I discovered I had it the wrong way. Not having glued or taped any nuts I find they are working pretty ok. Added bonus of clamping the screw slightly, almost like a lock nut.
