Cheers for reporting this - we always report these items to eBay to protect our customers from getting sucked into a Chinese knock-off but it always takes time for them to be removed. Inevitably there are people in China that try to sell counterfeit goods at an ever increasing rate, and it is very helpful is people can report it to us so we can deal with it!

Just to be clear, we do not sell anything through eBay, not directly or through resellers, so anything looking like an E3D HotEnd on eBay will not be genuine - especially if it claims to be a J-Head!?!!

We have had buyers of these fake-products complain to us about poor performance due to low-quality manufacturing. Obviously there will be no customer support from the supplier. We do not certify the quality of any of these products and are cannot provide support for any products that are not genuine E3D stuff.

I have reported this to eBay to protect any potential E3D customers. If you spot any more, do please let us know in this thread or report them as counterfeit!

What I'm confused about is whether maralb is associated with the eBay listing. Are they really coming here and taunting? "were" implies they are part of the company producing the clones?

He is saying "[they] were able to copy" as far as I can tell..

I don't think he would come here to gloat - its hardly going to be the most sympathetic audience!

I have to ask just for clarity.. The original post is a clone that in no way says its an e3d hotend (jhead, WTF?) Your hotend is open source/hardware AFAIK. Is there a licencing issue or something else preventing them from reselling on ebay legitimately?

Yes our license is open-source, and people are free to use our designs for their own personal projects, provided they are not commercial.

Using our designs for commercial purposes is in direct contravention of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License that we released the designs under. (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by- ... deed.en_GB) (Not to mention not giving us any attribution to our design..)

In some cases, it seems that companies have also been selling prints of our ducts with no attribution to E3D for the design which is a second contravention of the Creative Commons - Atribution license that we released it under. (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/)

Can someone clarify this issue in respect to commercial use?
With the licensing used, you are not able to machine/manufacture any E3D parts to sell. But, if someone buys the hotends from E3D to use in printers for sell, is this a violation?

In the first case, making the parts and selling them, you are not giving E3D any monetary support for their designs. A Licensing fee as it were.

In the second case, you are giving E3D monetary support by purchasing the hotend from them and then including it in a kit or assembled printer. You have paid a licensing fee as it were.

This might be an over simplification of all of the legal terms, but as a layman it is how I understand the differences. Of course I could be completely off my rocker and someone come in with more clout than I and lay down the proverbial law....

    Hi Cero,

Lukan is quite correct - to manufacture and sell our parts without our permission is in breach of our license.

To put our HotEnds on your printer is totally cool - in fact we are able to offer great discounts for bulk purchases and in some cases we will even work with you to create a custom design. If this is something that you are interested in, please just drop us an email at support@e3d-online.com

    Cheers,
    Josh

Good, that is what I was hoping.

Thanks Josh, its like you read my mind! I have a lot of work left still and print quality must be top-notch before I attempt to market but I'm not giving up!
But, speaking of custom design....has there been any interest for a kraken style cooling block for just two extruders?
    Thanks again!

I got suckered into buying them on eBay. I was researching all my parts for my 3d printer build, there was a good consensus on the E3D v6 hotends. I went on eBay and ordered 2, one bowden, one regular. I now find myself having to prove they are fakes. One listing was removed by eBay while it was in transit, i got refunded in full by eBay. The other though is still up and the seller is playing dumb that this is real, I got it on Monday. I feel dumb not having looked into the hotends before ordering, but i didn't think it was possible to counterfeit this. What can I do to convince eBay it's a counterfeit? There's use of kapton tape which is a start, but it's a pretty good replica.

My best bet is probably having someone at the company to have a look at it, the ins and outs will be more obvious.

That link is 100% counterfeit. Differences:

Real E3D has embedded bowden coupling, not hat ugly thing sticking out the top
Real E3D has dots on the nozzle flats to indicate size
Real E3D uses red/black thermistor cable, not white
Real E3D heatberblocks are machined, those look cast

    Finally:

This ebay storefront appears to have a huge variety of counterfeits, as does leap 3d, also on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/usr/3dp_champion?_trksid=p2047675.l2559. Leap 3D admits they are replicas. "This hotend is a replica of newest, popular E3D V6 hotend. You can print high temperature melting point plastics such as polycarbonate and nylon with this hotend, it has no Teflon/PTFE parts in the high temperature zone." that alone is enough grounds to have it taken down. I wish it weren't such a whack-a-mole game to deal with them. You guys do good work, and deserve the compensation for it. You don't deserve being dragged through the mud because an idiot bought a fake.
