At the moment I am thinking of converting to IDEX rather than Toolchanger as I only need two extruders, however I may end up regretting that decision as 3 or 4 extruders would be nice.

Thanks for your reply re. the IDEX setup. I have been looking into Duet 3D. Do you know if the Duet 2 has enough stepper drivers for doing this or would I need to use an expansion board? They probably have some info about this on their website/forum.

Hi Greg - I work at Oxford University in the Engineering Science Department. We have an old Leapfrog Creatr HS printer which is mechanically sound. I would like to convert it to IDEX using E3D Hemera direct drive heads. I like your design for the BigBox Direct drive IDEX. The Leapfrog is similar to BigBox.. I wondered if you could offer any advice on Electronics and Firmware that you used. Thanks.

        Hello,
At the time I used Marlin firmware and the RUMBA electronics. However I would recommend the Duet 2 Electronics and RRF3 firmware.

Hi Greg, I am interested in a laser head for the toolchanger system. Is there anyone (maybe you?) I can contact to talk to about laser head wavelength, adjustable power, and other characteristics?

Hi Randy, I would recommend you contact a company who specialises in lasers as it's not our field of expertise. I can point you towards odicforce.com if you are looking to use laser diodes.

      A question...
TC Config... the offsets... Z axis offset per tool. These are all negative numbers. Is closer to zero moving the hotend closer to the bed or further???

I ended up putting this in my config.g as a reminder.

; to nudge the nozzle closer to the bed, add a small amount to Z

Hi Greg. Is it possible to purchase the tool changer stepper motor by itself or will I have to purchase the entire assembly? Thanks for all of your work on the Tool changer and motion system.

Hi Greg, has your team though about supporting a simple electrical connection between the tool grabber and the tool that is picked up? I am thinking of a serial eeprom like the type on inkjet cartridges which would let the firmware identify the tool it just picked up

Yup. Possibly something for future iterations.

Hello Greg. Would you be interested in running some test on a graphite heater block? I machined an extra one.

Greg, I read somewhere, maybe startup scripts or .Hex file that you made the part cooling fan start and run to full speed and then stop to make sure that they would work afterwards... The problem I have is that some prints that I ask for a very low fan speed, it will not start at all. where and how, do I do that?
      Thank you.
      Gonzalo.

        Hi,

in the firmware you want fan kickstart turned on.

Hi Greg, the new motion system looks amazing, I hope that I will be able to afford it at some point!

FWIW, there are so many plastics that have difficulty printing at high speed that improved precision at a given speed is what I care about.

HI Greg, saw the new motion system, that looks amazing. If I can afford it when you decide on the price, I will get it.
Have you thought about a flex cable driven extruder? I know that they have their own set of issues, but weight is not one of them.

I would love an answer to this question, I am looking at moving to nimble extruders now and having at least one direct drive toolhead for flexibles would be nice.
Just curious, what are the main drawbacks with the flex cable? I dont have experience with them yet.

Hi Greg, do you have any of the 75cm Rapberry Pi camera flex cables left? If yes, can I buy one from you?

ps - I am using the new klipper firmware which runs on the RPi3 and the Rumba (Rpi3 does math, Rumba does I/O) It works nicely!

Currently, Klipper has simple bed tilt calibration which should work pretty well with your linear rail version, but it requires a probe to determine the bed height at several different points to calculate the slope and intercept for the x and y axis.

The developer, Kevin O'Connor is very responsive to requests and willing to co-develop new features. If you have x,y,z coordinate data (vs using a probe to measure it) it shouldn't be too difficult to add the ability to work with it.

I am not going back to Marlin; the print results I have seen with TPU are much better than what I could get with Marlin running on Rumba with bed leveling using 4 stepper motors simultaneously.

      Hello Greg,
Quick question, I am still on RC6, is that ok? or should I move on to a new build? what are you on? thank you!

if it still works it's ok. I am running the latest version on all of my machines. But the printfarm is still on RC6.

      Hi Greg.
I was flashing Rumba with XLoader as usual but it got stuck. I killed XLoader and tried again, but now all I get on BB is a blank blue screen.
Re installed Arduino/rumba drivers but nothing uploads...
      Can you help?
      Thank you.

try unplugging everything from the rumba, see if that helps.

Hey, I orders 2 Titan extruders, but I am very confused as I haven't received any confirmation from E3D.And my order history is also empty. I checked with my bank twice and they said the transaction was successful. I have been trying to contact E3D via email since 2 day but no reply. At least some kind of communication would be appreciated.

Hey Greg, for us early pre-orders will the files be released prior to receiving the units :-). I would like to get a jump start on things.
