About
Retired Engineer with specialisms in electronics and mechatronic design and manufacture.
My 3D printing activities started over two years ago when I wanted to construct a large astronomical telescope. Not having access to a machine shop I had to look to alternatives to make the parts and decided to explore 3D printing; the rest is history as I now have a very nice telescope that was a computer-based concept modelled with SolidWorks and built from mainly computer generated parts, with 3D printing by me and CNC cut panels made for me from my GCODE o/p. My many other printed designs have been incorporated in other manufactured equipment as well.
My current printer is the Velleman K8200, built from a kit and modified for my needs. My preferred filament is PLA because of its better mechanical properties, ease of machining, when necessary, and ease of printing. It also bonds to itself extremely well with superglue, making multipart assemblies much easier.Interact
