I am a retired IBM engineer. This means I think I know how to design and program things... which is sometimes true.
For hobbies, I enjoy both Amateur Radio and 3d printing. I take the greatest pleasure in making things that are either useful or gifts that are enjoyed by the recipient. The amount of time I spend on each hobby varies based on the rest of my life (which takes priority unless I get desperate!) and the state of my equipment (Amateur Radio tower is currently down for repairs so 3d printing is getting all of the attention). I love reading about new ideas and experimenting with materials and processes so that I am able to make a wide range of things. So far, I have printed with many different PLAs, ABSs, PETGs, PETT, TPUs, nylons (with carbon fiber and without) and a polycarbonate blend.
This community got me connected to using Onshape for CAD design work (I am a hack at best)Interact
