Have you tightened the nozzle up when heating the extruder to around 285C? If you don't do this, it can ooze out around the nozzle or heat break...

I primarily use ABS and once I get the E steps dialed in, make sure the motor voltage is correct, grub screws are right, spring tension is set...
You could always sand it flush so it doesn't protrude...

Be careful if you raise it much more than the hex on the nozzle the airflow may be blowing on the nozzle and heater block

there are a few pdfs that call out the components and hardware
can you get the step file and measure it to see if your prints match?
it is modeled with a clearance, but you might need to sand down the clamp a little... and it is supposed to slide in vs being pushed down
