Hello, I am considering the purchase of a tool changer. I have some doubts about it, do you recommend me to buy limit switches for the axes? Will I also need limit switches to park each tool? Anything else you recommend I buy? My idea is to choose the model with Duet Ethernet with 4 x direct Herema. Any advice before the purchase?
I did end up putting in the XY limit switches on mine but nothing for the tool parking. I’m using 4 original Hemera tools (2 V6 and 2 Volcano), if I was buying now I’d definitely go Hemera XS Revo. However I don’t think they have the option to purchase those as tools, if not you’d need plates and the extruders separately. Without the XS Revo you’re going to have almost no space between the tools. The Revo system itself is also amazing (you could use Hemera XS without Revo but being able to switch out nozzle dia easily is great to have in my view). Be prepared for some work to get software/firmware working and prime/wipe working well (if you plan to use for multi-material). This is still the biggest challenge everyone has and is probably the main reason I don’t use my Toolchanger anywhere near as much as I should. Have a read through the other posts here to get a flavour for the types of difficulties people have. It’s definitely not an out of the box setup, needs tinkering. There is a fairly active group of people discussing on the E3D Discord (love it or hate it) and looks like a lot of people have stopped using the forums in favour of that (again, no opinion on Discord, just stating where people seem to have ended up).
Thank you very much for your reply. What attracts me most in the purchase is the difficulty of the challenge that its assembly and start-up requires. Possibly, I will regret my words in the future... Little by little I am reading all the messages on the forum and I have joined the Discord, although the truth is that I have never used it. I will consider whether it is worth buying the kit without the tools and then buying the Hemera XS Revo, although I think it will be quite expensive...
The difference between buying the kit with 4 Hemeras and buying the kit with the tools and then buying 4 REVO XS Hemeras with the 4 tool anchors is about ̶€̶3̶0̶0̶ ,500€ more. I still wait a little longer for the purchase, until I expand my budget for those ̶€̶3̶0̶0̶ (500€)more. Edit: I correct the price, the difference is €500, €300 is the Herema Revo XS without the motor
