We're holding a live Q&A to try and answer as many of the questions you guys have about BigBox as possible in the most efficient way we can. The session will be hosted on Google-Plus Hangouts so you can all watch, join in, and comment live. The date is Thursday the 22nd and we’ll be starting at 1900, British Summer Time. That’s 1300CST for those in the USA central. We've tried to make the time as amicable as possible, considering that many of you are in the USA and we’re separated by 6 hours being in the UK. Hopefully many of you will be able to squeeze in some time to watch during your lunch-break at work. However we understand that many of you might not be able to partake in the live session. We still want to answer your questions though! If you post a question in this thread we will answer during the live session. The session will be recorded and uploaded to YouTube so that everyone can watch even if they can’t make the scheduled time. Please post only questions for or about the live Q&A session on this thread! Off-topic posts will be deleted without warning. We need to keep this thread clean and concise so that everyone's questions can be read and answered effectively during the live session.
In beginning 2015, Ultimaker ceased their development of a dual extrusion. The biggest problem they had was that the nozzles were digging into the other's layers and so destroying the print How will this be solved ?
The Major issue with the ultimaker 2 and why they did not end up releasing it was due to heat issues, they could not get rid of the heat generated by 2 nozzles so close to each other, There Teflon's only last a few months at best before you have to replace them due to them deforming so much due to the heat, i did some testing with there hotend engineer a while back and the Teflon's they now use have a glass fibre in them but still do not last much longer if your printing over 220 degrees.. They now ship a spare teflon with every printer as they know it is an issue
Next time a bit more notice perhaps? I only read this post 2.5 hours after you did the session... How many others..? 24 hours or a few days would seem reasonable if not minimal? C'mon boys! We're not all Big Box 24 7 like you are!
Two questions: 1. What's the total mass of the gantry with the 2 extruders? 2. Can you provide some samples showing vibration artifacts (or lack thereof), especially in the dual extruder configuration? A tiny object will be enough - attributes important to the test should be: the acceleration, presence of sharp corners and features (holes, dimples, text) on the printed objects, temperature and material that show the effect well (PLA, 210 deg C, shiny black or silver). Thanks!
Apologies for not being clear in the original post - the session is not until Thursday the 22nd of October, 2 days time. I've amended the original post to include the date, not just the time. Silly mistake by me there!
Can you show and give more details from the dual head?. And get we the design for the single head if we want to increase the buildingsvolume for the bigbox?
QandA : any sample prints of the dual extruder in action? Is everything still on track/schedule? What is the update frequency going to be going forward? Thanks!
My questions are boring! 1) how long to lasercut a big box? 2) as per discussion on google page: rave reviews across the net for metal & rubber stepper dampeners. Ship with min quantity of 10 from UK company... Any interest in testing /stocking e3d store to sell in units of 3 ? http://www.astrosyn.com/product.php/74/my17rmdamp
What changes have you made as a result of RichRaps feedback? Have you encountered any issues that will effect how the printer will work or affect when it ships? When are you planning to release the design files?
Yousaid in your interview that you will not be doing a SmallBox or BiggerBox, but a BetterBox.... will the improvements be compatible with the current BigBox? Or was that just to say that you will continue to improve on the design of the current printer?
Will certain units types of units be shipping out before others (e.g. kits before assembled printers, early birds before non-early birds) Is there anything we need to assemble our BigBox that won't be included with the kits? If so, what are they? This is particularly relevant for my American compatriots who might not own 20 sets of metric hex wrenches Do you have any recommended upgrades for those of us who are willing to invest more in our BigBox?
What abouth the drivers issue, you choose the a4988 drive While Richrap recommend the drv drivers. ..
I am interested in the dual extruder bigbox but missed out on the kickstarter. I have a couple questions. 1. The dual assembly looks massive. What kinds of speeds have you been able to max out at with it. What is the weight of the dual extruder assembly? Have you experienced any bowing of the rails because of the weight? Maybe not immediately, but will this be a problem that may occur over time? 2. Are there any incentives to preordering a bigbox now from your site vs waiting until stock is ready, after the kickstarter fulfillment?
Does your dual head assembly have any "tricks" in it to allow the two nozzles to be levelled to one another?
I have a couple of questions: 1. Since the printer is "teamed" with Simplify3D, do we get an FFF file to import that already have all the settings made? 2. Will there be a wiki where you post feedrates / temperatures for different filaments that you guys have tested and verified with the BB? 3. When will the parts for the BB be avail. in the E3D-Online store? 4. What date will the files for BB be released? BOM, manuals, STL's etc for us home DIY's who just bought the case?
