Well, I'm sad that people won't be able to buy the Bigbox in future but happy to be an owner of such a good machine. I'd hope that some may join our band of merry people via buying their own parts and frames but I suspect that over time this will stop due to availability of parts. As mentioned above, I think the only part that isn't available elsewhere is the heated bed PCB (by that I mean that the hotends etc. will still be available from E3D long term). Many thanks to all involved in its creation and support since, both at E3D/Bigbox and those part of the forums. The Bigbox is dead. Long live the Bigbox!!!
Actually @fpex laser cutting is way easier than 3D printing if all you're doing is cutting out a frame. You basically take the drawing and feed it into the route panning software (the 2d equivalent of a slicer). Set material type and off it goes. Or some acrylic vendors will simply cut for you for a nominal charge in addition to the material.
The stock of bed we have is to replace failed parts. We have a new bed, of a slightly different design, incoming in the next month or two.
What improvements are comming with the new bed? Or are the details being withheld for the time being?
All S2 printers are assembled using our own unique “moving assembly cell” (MAC) process. MAC uses a team of highly trained personnel to assemble the printer from start to finish, moving with the printer down the assembly line. This speeds up the process and dramatically increases the build quality Early on in development, we partnered with key sub manufacturers and suppliers to help build certain subassemblies on our printer, and keep them available for immediate shipment to our final assembly plant. This reduces excess inventory costs, and ultimately increases the build process ( A couple of good ideas! From: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...235900749&mc_cid=f39e7be3ea&mc_eid=46ab0672aa )
5 grand for the early bird and doesn't even include shipping... What costs are they saving again? Well upon closer inspection it does make sense, they are using actual industrial automation components. That and its enormous, wow.
all hail the hypnotoad! new beds look attractive, will they be available in light purple? or maybe white?
You can have any colour you like. As long as it is black. Bigger and better cable connector with the option of 12V & 24V operation. We are also likely to leave it lacking of any markings on the top too.
