when will the cad files and the other files be made available to the backers?
since bigbox has actually shipped now.

    thank you,
    Ryan M.

They have said that the files will be released after the KS orders are filled. That was the last I heard at least...

Clare said that hopefully the Build Docs would be finished and released today, I would guess the rest of the files will be released at the same time.

Where did these docs get posted again? I know there was a teaser shared the other day and now I can't even find that link. (Too many forums/community/comment areas ;)

Ah yes, the now famous (from last nights hangout) sheet 14 item 14.... :)

Once the CAD files are posted I'll see if I can import them into fusion 360.

If they can then I'll set up a shared project folder for whoever wants to use it to share mods

so I see the stls have been released,
but no dxf files, or the part files for the parts.... , so we can modify and change things as we see fit.

first change to come to mind is a quick change for the hotends, especially for people with volcanos and such.

thoughts, maybe from E3D and bigbox?

is there a full assembly you guys have modeled?

I will look to see if I can transfer to SolidWorks as well.

I cant get any of the STLs converted over.
I either don't know how to do it right or we should have been given the actual part files or step, or an extension that converts well.
this is very annoying to me.

anyone get the parts converted over to a system where you can change the part and not have a single imported body/surface/etc?

Fusion 360 can edit the STEP files 100% and the 123dx files are also fine in their native program.

I have had some initial success with the STEP files in SW16 but it does require more work than I want to devote to it at the moment.

    yeah I was trying too.
so much for it being true open source?
or do I just not understand the concept?

Open source doesn't mean universal source :) You have to, you know, go to the source

I imported the step into Solidworks 2015 and all the bodies as solid bodies. Doesn't have a feature tree but that's fine for now. Making the assembly as well. Already spotted a couple errors in the panel DXF's that they're correcting.

on the open source, awesome thanks, forgot I just need solid bodies to do what im doing.
    thankyou.

the dxf issue they have is not similar to mine, file wise.
im saying the lines when I bring them into solidworks from the drawing of the dxf, some lines are not connected. but they are so close that that if I didn't have a computer I would never know it.

Yeah the DXF had some open lines and circles being imported as splines so they're not good for mating.

I'm fixing all the issues with the actual files and will share them once it's all finished. Greg uploaded the corrected version of the support piece and back plate that had design faults.
