I was torn between Greg's linear rail Aero IDEX and Chase's dual Titan with the magnets and doing plug conversions so I can quick change hotends. Not this does it ALL at once, can't wait to get going with that!

So I've started to make a to do list and IDEX as a feature seems to incorporate a separate motor axis as well, so additional motor, driver. How the hell does one define a U axis in Simplify, Firmware (RUMBA and Duet) etc? I am a bit at a loss here where to start...

    As far as i understand:

S3D are a couple of options, but nothing particular for X or U axis, you do need to change the toolchange script for parking the carriages and purging,

Selection of X or U axis is done by selecting a new tool with T0 or T1 command

Rumba I have no idea, I am done with buggy marlin

For the duet there are tutorials on the duet wiki

I have printed my first part for this idex conversion yesterday, but im having quality issues

Let me know if you have problems with the parts? Mine has been running as built (without a single problem) for a long time now, most of my parts where in the end printed in PetG, apart from fan shrouds that where printed in HT

My printer is the issue. Not the parts

I have the fan shrouds printed in colorfabb HT. The other parts will be colorfabb XT

In the Marlin firmware, a second carriage that moves along the x axis is supported by a combination of firmware settings, values and additional hardware. Marlin assumes that the first unused extruder stepper driver will step the second x axis carriage. The home location for the second x axis carriage is defined as "x max". A limit switch is needed at x max to tell the firmware that the second carriage has reached its home location.

    Does that help?

    Quick question

Does anyone know a good supplier in europe for the motor where they have the ones with either the connectors from the original motors or with long enough leads ?

Thanks Gene, that is a good starting point. However, I am pretty much done with Marlin and seeing as I'd have to invest in additional hardware in order to get IDEX running on it, I'd rather invest that money towards a Duet migration while I'm at it.

But maybe your stuff will come in handy for a temporary solution somehow, we'll see. Thanks for the effort though, always appreciated!

I finally got a decent print of the carriage on my prusa mk2, my bigbox seems to be failing mechanically. However the timing belt and grub scrub are pretty loose and with some force I can pull out the belt. pretty weird since dimensions are pretty much spot on (square nuts fit perfectly and dont fall out).

Are the grub screws m3 or m4 ?

Also, it seems the omron switch is gonna be hard to get for me: will the current bigbox ones work ?

Some high res pics from actual belts would be helpfull. Havent figured out the wiring leeds yet specifically the heater and pt100 wires

I believe the switches will be fine. You don't have to use Omron brand :)

As I remember, M3? (I used leftovers from my big-box parts bin. I think they where ment to mount the heatsink in the original bigbox build)

    Hi,

I have already several months Marlin running for my Idex conversion. As far as I am concerned it is working fine. See my earlier post for the firmware.

You will have to adapt your Simplify3D profiles with different start and stop scripts. If will these to github if anyone is interested.

I have printed all x and y carriage parts but I just cant get the belts firmly secured, the grubscrews can be pushed in all the way without screwing, and it doesnt take too much force to pull the belts out :(

Has anyone tried to print with scaffold with this setup ??

When I pullout the filament after clogging. I notice that its soft right up until the heatbreak. wich makes me wonder wether the heatbreak fan is able to suck in enough air.

I've done torwell PVA support, never tried scaffold (witch is a PVA type material?) It worked ok, but I had a heck of a time to get it to stick to the bed (PEI)
