    Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem with my V6 hotend: The extruder shrinks the filament, after 3-5 sec, because it takes a lot of force to extrude.

After testing a lot of things, I'm asking for your help.

    My setup:

    A new genuine E3DV6 3mm hotend with 0.4 nozzle on a wade's geared extruder
Tested with 2 differents 2.85mm PLA
    Fan always on
RAMPS 1.4 with latest marlin firmware and thermistor set to 5

    What have I tested:

It's very hard to push by hand. It's ok at first but becomes impossible after about 10-20mm of filament.
I think the hotend is properly assembled. I've checked it several times
The temperature is reached correctly, seems stable and
Tested with different speed rate (from 50mm/s decreased to 15mm/s)
Tested with temperature from 200°C to 240°C

Anyone have any ideas on how to help me with my problem?

    Hi,

New test yesterday, to be able to extrude I have to lower the feed rate to 2mm/s.
What speed would normally be possible with an E3D-V6 for 3mm filament?

Depends on the size of the nozzle hole, the heat of the nozzle, and the length of the melt zone. Increase any to permit higher feed. Build a test print and intersperse it with speed changes and heat changes to find the happy medium. Most people work on print speed, not extrusion speed (though obviously related).
