thanks greg i wasnt sure how to give you guys credit....Ive only posted a couple of things on thingiverse....and all this new licensing stuff is weird. linked!
Is there a thread on building one of these from as many locally sourced parts as possible? I'm going to prototype something for a customer with my pre-order ASAP, but the customer has made noises about not wanting dozens, but grosses. (grossers? grossi? taksan gross?) I'd need to have 3-4 running at the same time to meet the demand and it's a good business deal for me to get them together fast, not cheap. So I'd have to get my own ball screws made at a local CNC grinding company, cut my own panels instead of billing client hours, etc etc. (Option #2 is to start buying people's pre-orders, blargh.)
Not that i know of. The build wiki should cover it once you've printed all the parts that can be. You should be aware though that the size of the bigbox means you should check the cable lengths of your locally sourced parts.
So the question I have, is where can I source the cables to hook up a pi to the Big Box. Because of some projects at the school I happen to have some extras laying around and figured I might as well add the option once I get it since I already have the pi.
Wonder what special cables you wanna use... If you wanna mimic the stock mounting of the Pi then I have no idea, search the web. But I recommend just connecting USB to the RUMBA, should not be hard to get an USB cable , and then follow some portions of this to power the RPi. The remote plug stuff is not needed but you do not need a power converter and that short USB cable... Just a normal RPi power supply and a USB cable...
You could also tap into the Bigbox Community as a sort of extended print farm. Have people printing parts and shipping them over by the Boxful ! (btw. I think that's a service that E3d can offer too with their print farm...)
I'm going to be printing PEEK for a customer with some serious constraints, it's better if I do it myself and QA the prints before they go out.
Looking good. Somebody in the forums is working on an extended Z axis version. Haven't heard anyone talking about extending the Y?
Extended Y I would like. If just didn't have a job and kids but still could maintain the cash flow... @Mike Kelly, I really like your modelling! Any chance you will release the files?
Yeah I need to get around to making a GitHub with it. Need to see what's changed since I worked on it last. I also lost some progress and that image is more flushed out than currently.
Finally made one for 1.0.0 https://github.com/MTKelly/BigBox1.0.0-SW Don't really plan on polishing that anymore. Started a 1.1.0 that I'll improve upon instead
Do all the new Big Box printers being sent out have the new temperature sensor that is listed on the blog?
The BigBox came with PT100 sensors and heater blocks right from the start. The other temp sensors have been adapted to match the PT100 size so the new heater block is actually just the old PT100 heater block...
@hammy just to remove any possible lingering doubt, what you saw on the blog was what I received in the box on Friday, so nothing to worry about.
Is there a file for the frame parts, we have a laser cutter, and i wanted to make acrylic inserts for the side of my ply frame. before i sit down with a ruler and re draw them, thought it might be easier with the actual sketch.
