I thought I'd start this thread in order for us to capture together the filament clips we've found work the best for the various spool types out there. I'll edit this thread (and have reserved the following one incase there are limits to thread size). To keep together what anyone cares to share. E3D 750g PLA/ABS Spools http://www.thingiverse.com/download:118557 Rigid.Ink 1Kg Spools http://www.thingiverse.com/download:118563 eSun 1Kg Spools http://www.thingiverse.com/download:118561 Universal Approaches http://www.thingiverse.com/download:40443 http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:875919/#files http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:635200
I tend to use this design for almost everything, because my spools are packed quite tightly in an air tight box and the ones that attach to the rim of the reel tend to fly off if another spool hits them. I use the 1.75mm ribbed version and it works pretty well for everything I've tried it on, including flexible TPU. I just had to make the gaps very slightly smaller for PETG since it seems a bit slippier.
I also used this one at some point (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:635200), which like it would be a very similar application method to yours. It's definitely more finicky than an edge mounted clip though. Perhaps I'm just lazy
I used those for a while: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:282242 Some prints are fine keeping everything in place but if there is very few filament on the spool especially 3mm filament the forces are too much and it slide through the clip. I am using those now for 1.75mm, they behave a little like springs: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:42528 I found the "Octave" version is the one for me to go, it doesn't fit the shape of my spools but it clamps good and holds the filament in place, as I said like a bit spring loaded...
Thanks Alex. I also found, used, and had similar issues with the first one you linked. In case you liked it and just needed it tighter, I did create a customizable version to let you dial it in to perfection - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1004646 The "octave" model you linked was the one I selected at the top for the E3D filament reels. It hooks nicely over the lip on those reels.
