The filament is extremely difficult to insert. But more importantly it can not be withdrawn !
After the filament has been melted in the E3D-V6 hotend, it is to thick to go back through the lever arm ???

The tension screw can only be adjusted to max ~50%, and then the thumbwheel can not be turned by hand.
And the tension has to be reset to zero, before you can change filament.

Have I received the old faulty one I have read about ?

Ensure you do a warm pull i.e. remove the filament while the nozzle is hot, as there is naturally some expansion of the filament in the hotend, so a warm pull will allow the filament to compress and pass through the tube. You should pull the lever back with your fingers to release the hob while pulling and you should not need to wind back the tension.
