I ordered a 12 volt V6 kit a few days back and Installed it on my printer yesterday. When I set the temp to 230 degrees see, the heater cartridge started smoking from the end without wires after ~25 seconds. I'm guessing this was just some unknown goo that was stuck on the cartridge, because it stopped smoking eventually after ~30 seconds.

I decided to measure the resistance of the cartridge , which was 5.4 ohms. I have the red wire cartridge and, and thats supposed to be 3.6Ω and 40w. But I measured 5.4Ω which is 26w. is this way off and cause for concern or is it fine?

I would send an email (or call) to e3d support if I were you. Does not sound right. At least if the resistance is wrong. May be some weak point causing excess heat somewhere in the heater.

I Actually ordered it from a reseller. The reseller responded to my question by saying that it's not an issue. I mailed E3D for a second opinion.

And to confirm it's a genuine part from an authorised reseller...

The reseller is trustworthy, but we'll see.
