Drive on the LA freeways until a piece of debris smashes a hole in the grill of your Landrover. Discover that a new grill (and surround since it can't be bought on its own) will cost $600. Add another few hundred for labor. Nothing done at a dealer costs less than a few hundred! Potential cost ~$1000. Plan B: Draw a patch in 123D Design. Print in ABS on the BB. Glue in place. Spray with some silver paint. Feel smug!
this is what most people expect when they get a 3d printer lol, how long did it take to medel and print?
Measured the dimensions with digital calipers. Drew one 'hole' in 123D and duplicated it to make a grid a bit larger than needed. Added a rim around that so it would stay stuck on the bed while it printed. Trimmed the broken parts of the grill and trimmed the patch to fit with a Dremel. Epoxy followed by some filler. One challenge was that the grill is slightly curved so I had to hold the patch in place until the epoxy set. I suppose I could have used a color closer to the original but once it's painted who can tell?
