The title says it all. The SV documentation says that operation above 260C will reduce the life of the sock, but I can't find replacement socks on the E3D shopping site.
I've been wondering if one couldn't just slather a good thick layer of RTV silicone rubber on a hot end, and have a semi-permanent sock (until heat damage destroys it). Then, scrape/sand it off and go again. I have a sufficient supply of hot-end socks that I have needed to try this, so far. A next step would be to coat the nozzle down to just above the point, to make it anti-stick. Has anyone tried this? As far as I know, generic RTV is good to beyond 250C for quite extended periods.
I've bought some 50m wide glass fibre tape. I shall try winding that round the heater block, using Kapton tape on the outside to stop it unwinding.
