Hi there. I have designed up a custom tool for direct drive on the ToolChanger. It is based upon the flex3Drive flexible shaft extruder system. It utilizes the flex3Drive flex cable, pinion gear, and drive gear from https://flex3drive.com/ I used the dual gear 5mm gear set and 3mm ID bearings from Bondtech: https://www.bondtech.se/en/product/drivegear-kits/ In addition, I incorporated the flex3drive motor end parts from micked on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4074957 My tool end design is completely different from the micked design, but I used the motor base and flexible shaft support designs from his thing. I am just now installing it for the first time. Here are some photos:
Here are some renderings of the parts in the tool head. All printed parts, exploded view: Assembly Rear View: Assembly left side view with the idler arm translucent to show Bondtech dual gear area: Front view with top of gear enclosure translucent to show idler arm engagement:
This is awesome. How is the quality when printing at high speeds? The only thing I didn't like about mounting the hemera on on my TC is the added weight on the gantry and the ringing associated with the added weight.
Not real impressed with the print quality. I've only been printing for a very short period. Hard to print real fast due to the gear reduction. I'm getting a weird slipping noise, and it looks to be either slipping at the filament (gears not engaged?) or the motor is not able to keep up with the retraction speed. I lowered it below the 15 mm/s recommended by Flex3Drive. Set it to 10, and the slipping sound on retract kept happening. I'll keep plugging away.
