    Hi guys,

I'm experimenting with the IGUS RJMP-01-08/RJ4JP-01-08 linear bearing as a hopup for the rather noisy and bad quality (at least mine was)LM8UU there was shipped with the BigBoxes.

This unfortunately means remixing the carriages for the x- and y-axis, since the current clamps will make the short IGUS bearings kink and bind up.

I'm pretty much done with the x-axis carriages, but i still have to do the y-axis carriages, while the z-axis should be plug and play.

Notes on the design and the chosen way of fixing the IGUS bearing: I have decided to use the recesses for fixing o-rings and from there it is just a press fit into the carriages. This way everything should be nice and centered and in theory it should also be a little sound dampening.

I will post my progress as it goes along.

    Cheers.

Today i did the last parts for my IGUS upgrade. i have yet to print them, since i'm away from home at the moment.

The files are up on Thingiverse.

Can't wait to get mine up and running to print these out. I am already installing them, just needed a printer to get something like this done up to make replacements. Thanks for the excellent work!

What Orings are you using for this?

Are you thinking of doing a hybrid version? ;) ;) :D

If I can do a dual set up, or some kind of quick change between the two, then yes. ;) Would love a dual Titan. Bowden I am actually not to keen on as a beginner, it almost scares me ...

I bought these, but im not entirely sure that they will fit but we will see: http://www.ebay.com/itm/33172531451...49&var=540840674223&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Dont fear the white snakes! They are your friend, they remove bad weight from your (horse)carriages.

I just uploaded my custom titan mount that will fit carriages and it has a well places recess for the plug of the 18Ncm stepper and well places support material that breaks away very easy. :)
Go print guys and get those nasty LM8LUU out of the way. :)

look interesting... but why do you changed from screwing the bearings to the solid housing? It looks to me kind of a lot work if you want to change the e.g. x-carriages

    NIce.

    So, no lubrication required....

Are there ANY possible disadvantages to solid bearings for our application?

(Saw the TAZ 6 had made this choice too...)

Some bearings possibly these? suffer from stiction

As @Old_Tafr says, there is the issue of stiction, slight sticking due to friction. On the X & Y action this may not be an issue but for the Z axis it would be a real problem as movement is very small, particularly when auto-levelling is enabled, and any stiction will cause banding and other quality issues.

    Stick to balls! o_O:D

As i wrote in post #1 The current clamps can make the short IGUS bearings kink and bind up because they are made for the longer lm8luu. I might work on a more interchangeable solution in the future, but for now i don't really see a need for changing the x-carriages, wouldn't you just bolt something else on top of it?

I have tested it a bit and stiction only seams to be an issue if the tolerances is bad on the rods and bearings, and as @mike01hu wrote, it will not be an issue with the x- and y-axis.

I also played around with the z-axis as well and it works without any stiction if i matched the bearings to the rods. Actually bad quality linear ballbearing can also have stiction and in my z-axis test to matched IGUS bearing felt like they had less stiction that the ballbearing, but to be real it doesn't make any difference when the bed is so heavy, it will go down no matter what. :)

Too true, as the early adopters found out and E3D had a major adjustment to make on the rods supplied!

I can only say that so far my set up is working well. I only changed the Z-axis to the regular bearings as I was having problems with stiction, since they don't move much anyway the noise is non existent. Also the extra weight on the Z-axis is probably good to pull the bed down more. Overall, I have had a very positive experience with the Igus bearings.
I will probably print out the carriages soon and try them out. I feel that the original ones were done okay, but could be better. Unfortunately, I don't have the new Form 2 like someone here does. The finish on those pieces are just outstanding.

    Hi JesperJuul,
    Verry nice Job-
I change also my bearings (many problems) with the IGUS Bushings, but on the Thingiverse missing some parts, others are double.
    Can you upload the Parts?
    Thx, Anton

Only the Titanmount is missing and you only need that if your are using E3D´s titan extruder.

Uploade a make on Thingivers then you have printed it.

Yes, I have The titan extruder. Do You Upload The Mount on Thingverse?
    Thx

Great, Titan is awesome, but i need to make a mount that match the footprint of the new carriages, but havent had the time yet. You can use this one i made in the meantime it will work just fine, it is only cosmetics. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1524673
    Cheers
