Rasbpi Included SD card, 8gb, only shows 813mb of space...
Yes, that's the way it works. When you first run the OS the instructions say to "expand the file system" which let's you then use all the space.
It's a quirk of copying Linux operating systems to memory cards on Windows.
Also if you put it in your computer after the space also won't match up and you need to fully format the card and start again with re imaging.
Hmm, so was there something on the card already and I just can't see it because I am on windows? Because I haven't done anything to it, just put it in and windows says 813mb
I just performed a full format in windows disk manager, and nothing still 813mb..
Yes unfortunately that is also to be expected, there is a special tool, I think it was something like win 32 disk formatter. If you search for format raspberry pi sd card it should turn up, otherwise I'll look when I get home and get you the link.
Okay, so my sd card reader wasn't up to the task, when I plugged the micro sd into the sd adapter into a usb adapter it worked.
