So I've put together a DIY printer loosely based on the Cherry 60 design and, despite having no experience in 3D printers and making some bits in wood, the first print was fantastic (using the E3D-v6 lite).

After fixing some y-axis belt problems that were causing layer shifts, I am suffering some thermistor issues. The first problem was one morning switching on gave a MINTEMP error, fix and reset with M999. I can't quite remember how I cleared that, I think I had to re-upload the firmware (Marlin on Ramps 1.4).

After that, the thermistor kind of worked but the temperature topped out at about 135 even though it was still heating. I used a digital thermometer that said the temp kept rising above 135. To begin with, the thermistor reported room temp as expected, but didn't rise appropriately.

So I swapped the pin assignment in the firmware for T0 and T-Hotbed, plugged into the hotbed thermistor pins (not currently using a hotbed) and problem seemed to be fixed. But I notied the prints weren't as clean as before. Using the thermometer it appears that reported temps around 200 are more like 150.

Given that the readings go up and down, just not accurately, I'm not sure how I should diagnose the problem. Could it be that the thermistor isn't seated properly? Could it be faulty? Is it the electronics?

Thanks for any help you can give.
    Joe

Sounds sort of intermittant, like a loose connection.

Hi thanks yes. Although it appears to be very consistent during a print (in fact the whole day). I'll check it out though.

Soldered the wires, swapped things around a few times, and now everything works great.
