    Hi,

I've had mixed results with the OMC 17HS08-1004S (13Ncm) motors. Some prints have gone fine and suddenly I can not get anything done as it start to skip heavily. I have most problems with HTPLA-CF on 0,4 mm nozzle. With the 13Ncm it starts skipping. But the I can have 2-5mm of perfect print other times.

I do not think it is clogging as I can push filament manually. But the motors can get burning warm. The drivers are not warm at all. I tried both the SilentStepSticks and the stock bigbox drivers and the results are the same. Could I do something wrong with the PTFE tubes and they start pinching?

Could less microstepping give more torque?

Tuning the stepperdriver will be the solution

I have done so. I turn the voltage down so it starts to skip more and back up bit for bit. This seems to work perfectly when I fire it up just for tuning. But if I do this while its already started acting up it does not help.

Can a hot (very) hot motor cause skipping? I would only think a hot driver could cause skipping.

The OMC 17HS08-1004S (13Ncm) motors do get very hot, but they are rated to operate at 80 C, so I'm willing to take them at their word and, if they burn out, well, I didn't have another use for them anyway. As I noted in your other thread, make sure the Titan idler arm is rotating freely on the stepper shaft.

No issues with the idler arms. They slip on of just loose enough. I can rotate the largest gear relatively easy.

Your problem is not the pancake motor.

Can you measure how much voltage is supplied by your PSU ?
    Is is titan extruder ?
    how much microsteppings ?
    Which controller board ?
    Which stepstick ?

there are calculations for stepper max speed, according to voltage and inductance, maybe I could help you

First opinion : your pancake stepper is too weak. But need to know everything to give you a better answer.

I'm using Titan but the rest I need to double check now if I reverted to my old drivers..
    Board: Rumba.

Interesting. Could his affect the torque? As in this case it seems to weak. Need to make something to center the shaft to verify.
