@Greg Holloway Ok, I can't take it any longer ... Just some questions in order to get all things at home set and ready.... The extruded aluminum rods, are they 30x60 ? Do you use Nema 23 steppers for xy ? Is the new 800W heated bed going to be released together with the Tool Changer ? Do you use Molex Microfit 3.0 connectors for the toolheads ? Waiting in tension
The anticipation is killing me. On top of Rob's questions above: Will we get the STLs for printing tools in advance? Are tools printed in EDGE good enough or is there any improvement to be had by going even stiffer like XT-CF20 or PA-CF? Are 400W power supplies enough for that monster? Do you have designs for a Titan Aqua toolhead already? Will the acrylic side walls be available in different colors or god forbid even in metal? Have you solved the problems with different tool heights and the cleaning brush being fixed already? Can we have a non-cantilever bed please with 3 ballscrews so we can make use of Duet true bed autolevel? What bodycount of people who couldn't take the suspense anymore do you estimate by the time you release it? Will we be able to choose between the no-expenses-spared (HiWin etc) and the "normal" (ChiWin) version?
The coming high powered heated bed uses a silicone material presumably with heating wires embedded. From videos I've seen, the wires are arranged in a serpentine. Would it be possible to arrange the wires appropriately and embed high temperature magnets in the interstices to allow use of either a glass bed or steel flex plate?
In advance of what? Yes, probably. No. No. I have my own solution, but I haven't implemented or tested it. No. Not telling. No.
In advance of the platform being shipped out to those of us who have deposited. Thanks for all the replies!
I am sure there you wont want to answer this but any rough ideas on timeline, even vague like before the end of the year, next year q1,q2. If you do respond, wont hold you to any guesses just hoping for a feel for when it might happen.
I did a calculation of the power needed to drive the ToolChanger (24V assumed). If you use 30W heater cartridges and add the fans, and extruder stepper the total power consumption per head will be around 40W, and 50W with 40W power cartridges (which I would prefer). That makes a total of 200W for all four toolheads. The XY steppers and the Z-stepper take around 30W, and the duet system (DuetWifi, DueX5 and Paneldue) 7-8 W That makes a total of 238W. Duet recommends a headspace for the power supply of 20%, so that will make 285W, but this is without the heated bed. The BigBox bed is consuming 240W, that will make a total of 238+240+20% headspace = 573W BUT: The current BigBox HB is the minimum you need to successfully print with ABS. Duet3D recommends a minimum of 0.4W per square cm bed: 20*30*0.4=240W. If you opt for the new 800W 240Vac heated bed, you have: less waiting time for your bed to heat up higher bed temperatures no extra power needed for the power supply, since you will be driving your bed with a solid state relay, and thus 400W will be more than enough. @Greg Holloway : Am I right here ?
That sounds all awesome but this thread is the first time I've heard about the 800W bed. Certainly sounds like something I'd want to have, especially if it runs on 230V AC - I guess it is controlled by a big mosfet?
I posted these questions on the blog post, not sure if any of them will be answered on either platform If you buy just the tool changer portion, what exactly do you get? Everything that attaches to the bearing, Or is what attaches to the bearing still part of the motion system and the rest of the tool changer bolts to the aluminum housing? What kind of bearing is it, what is the size of the rail? Just trying to get an idea of what I would need to prepare my bigbox or other printer for the tool changer.
