So besides the fact ive gone through 4 thermal runaways though they stopped in 4 different spots so Im hopeful thats a good sign, (Im about to adjust my fans and fan speed as im using PLA I read today that should help) what is with this consistent marring? This one spot has trouble, I know Ive seen it before but I cannot remember why, long before I had my own box in my hands anyway! Any guidance would be appreciated. You can see the stages of improvement as I shift and fiddle and adjust tension! Oh and dont mind the scorch marks on number 4 we were experimenting with the added flexibility of PLA when heat was added.

After my first benchy had a TR I removed and reseated the PT100 and heater cartridge and the very next print was fine. Temp held to 1 degree variation with fans going 100%.

At what temperature? I was able to run the fans at 100% to about 200 but above the heater could hold the temp...

I did manage a successful print! Its a little ugly but its there! Now how can I clean this up? In the middle it seems to start underextruding or something that causes that inconsistency over specific layers. And the incomplete was starter after I tried to tighten the bars and adjust belt tension, I killed it as that marring on the right side is still bad and it was starting to rain. Also a new filament I have not used, some Shaxon Translucent PLA from frys, I know Translucent is terrible for bench marking because its hard for you guys to see the deformity, I have more shipping in tomorrow to see if maybe that is the case.

Getting some under extrusion there. Did you calibrate your extruder steps?

Several times, til right at 100mm on the calibration. Its only in those layers afterwards its okay again. Got some blacl PLA from PROMOLT running at 210 / 60 bed does fairly well only that one spot, no matter the filament as seen here, something else crazy?

Are your steppers running hot? What about tuning the stepper driver current? Seems like it's skipping steps a bit maybe

what are your retraction settings as well?

Finished the machine last weekend or at least start printing, first 3d printer. Honestly its all off the included SD the Benchy Gcode included I have been just trying to get one excellent benchmark before moving on but its been killing me, a tweak here or there. Last night I tuned all drivers to .59 to be certain, it cinched up the stitch at the seam but not flawlessly. Its always the same set of layers the same way. It seems like the retraction is maybe too competent at that layer but I really have very little experience here, limited to the BB.

How can I check the steppers? get the read on them while running the print?

A feel test is a good way of knowing. Release any electrostatic charge then touch the stepper driver during/after a print. If it's too hot to hold your finger on after tuning it could be a sign of being faulty.

    Is the motor itself hot?

The loaded SD card file isn't great, overall your print looks awesome, just need to figure out what's causing the extrusion issue.

Happens right around layer 100, No motors are hot that I have found, about to brave the stepper driver touch.

1st one is a little warm but not much, the middle one is furiously warm as you expected one could be, and the rest seem relatively room temperature.

After the print just the middle one is still hot enough to be anything, it seems to be the problem child. (I had to have my wife double check >.<) the middle was all that stood out like 3 minutes after stopping the print

So basically that driver sounds faulty yeah? Ill need to see about getting it replaced I suppose... I wonder though, as luck would have it I bought 5 DRV8825 High Current 32x Microstepping Driver with Heatsink after RichRap talked about his experiences using them.. Any idea if I would still just need to tune it to the .60 range? I had intended them as an eventual upgrade but necessity of the weekend when I have all my time for tuning and testing.

Yeah I dunno about the voltage rating. Another thing to keep in mind is that they're 1/32 micro stepping sticks and the bigbox natively uses 1/16 and 1/8 for the Y

You'd need to adjust the jumpers for the correct microstepping.

Craaaaaaaaaaap, this is why I had them as eventual upgrades. But I need to print! Wonder if I can find any of the native drivers nearby..

Now when you say Jumpers... like jumper pins on the rumba or?

Looks like richrap ran them at 16x to see how it would do, in theory I could have them running for 16x in place of the native 4988's yeah? using settings shown here maybe. Would there be additional steps I would have to take on the Rumba though? Im pretty eager to get 1 good print this weekend but even the UK post isnt that fast and Im in Texas besides. And thanks so much for your help so far Mike, you have really helped me out already!
