Hello, I was wondering if there is a recommended wire gauge for the E3D-V6? I am looking to add one to a gMax printer which uses 24awg wiring (I believe that's .51mm metric) with the stock j-head and want to provision for re wiring with a larger wire if needed. Many thanks! crussell
24awg is pretty wimpy, rated for 3.5 amps - and that's chassis wiring, which in your case isn't really applicable since it's a run of a few feet. E3D heaters pull 40w, which at 12 volts is 3.33 amps - so you'd be right at the max rating for that wiring. The heaters come with a meter of cable, that might be enough to run all the way back to the control board.
Thanks Elmoret. Do you know what gauge comes with the heaters? With the gMax, a meter might be a fairly tight stretch. I'll need to pull out the original harness and measure this weekend. crussell
